In order to understand the fandom culture you chose you will need to acquaint yourself with the actual products or artifacts of that culture. Some examples of what fans produce that fall into this category might be: blogs, discussion venues, fan websites, videos that perform satire or imitation or remixing or any number of modes, spoiling, fan fiction, and so on.
In order to create a credible study of the fandom you chose you will need to analyze some of that fan culture. Use the keywords we have gleaned from the readings (available on the keywords page) and/or use the rhetorical keyterms we learned in class discussion and the handout to do a rhetorical analysis of a fandom artifact. A rhetorical analysis includes, in part: Who is speaking? To whom? To what end? In what context? Using what genre or genres? In what mode? |
